The Master of Arts in Education Program specializing in Elementary Education equips educators to advance their careers as master teachers, supervising instructors, subject specialists, or department heads. Candidates can choose from three program tracks (30-32 units): This pathway is ideal for educators seeking to understand modern literacy challenges, examining contemporary theories and teaching methods that address 21st-century students' needs. The curriculum emphasizes foundational literacy skills, diverse literacies, cultural and community-based approaches, and critical literacy perspectives. Educators dedicated to literacy development and helping students excel as readers, writers, and communicators will find this program particularly valuable. CSUN students gain hands-on experience through the campus Literacy Center and real classroom environments, where they develop, evaluate, and implement literacy initiatives that inspire and assist all learners. Two courses specifically focus on diagnosing and supporting struggling readers in school settings. This program's coursework fulfills most prerequisites for the Reading and Literacy Leadership Specialist Credential, allowing many participants to concurrently pursue both their Master's Degree and this professional certification.
