The Patricia A. Chin School of Nursing provides a postmaster's Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate program designed for nurses holding a master's degree in Nursing who wish to enroll in courses from the Master of Science in Nursing curriculum. This Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program equips advanced practice nurses to deliver primary healthcare services to urban families.

This specialization focuses on wellness promotion, illness prevention, and treatment of common acute conditions and ongoing health issues in culturally diverse populations of all ages. Students gain hands-on experience in delivering advanced nursing care, consulting, collaborating, coordinating services, and making referrals across various community and outpatient environments. Program graduates will lead initiatives and advance research to improve healthcare quality for multicultural and underserved populations in diverse settings, including primary care clinics, private practices, K-12 schools, women's health centers, pediatric offices, occupational health facilities, urgent care centers, specialty clinics, sports medicine practices, and travel medicine services. Graduates qualify for advanced practice nurse recognition by the California State Board of Nursing and are eligible to sit for the Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination administered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Hold a Bachelor's degree, and wish to continue your graduate/post-baccalaureate studies in a graduate, certificate, credential or 2nd bachelor's program at Cal State LA.
Good academic standing at the last college or university attended,
Grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 in an acceptable earned Bachelor's degree (or a GPA of at least 2.5 (out of 4.0) in the last 60 semester (or 90 quarter) units attempted) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)- 80 ibT or higher, 550 pbt
