The Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MA TESOL) equips educators for diverse roles across the U.S. and internationally. The program offers specialized coursework for various career paths, such as teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) or English as a Foreign Language (EFL) domestically or overseas, working in K-12 schools, adult education programs, higher education institutions, or conducting applied linguistics research. Key focus areas include language learning processes, instructional methods, linguistic theory, assessment techniques, research methodologies, and sociocultural factors. Students must complete 36 units, with a minimum of 50% at the 5000-level, and fulfill either a comprehensive exam requirement or complete a thesis/project. Note that variable-unit course credits have specific limitations - refer to the Restrictions on Credit Earned in Variable Unit Courses section for details.
