The Wood program (previously known as general crafts) provides a BFA at the undergraduate level, along with MA and MFA options for graduate students. This wood-focused concentration has thrived for about two decades, though it only recently gained the ability to award BFA degrees. Now, Fiber, Metal, and Wood each provide specialized degree programs, as well as an Integrated Media Degree that enables students to blend all three disciplines. The wood program boasts excellent woodworking facilities tailored for furniture design and construction. While roughly half our students focus on furniture, the program also supports those exploring diverse materials and concepts in both practical and artistic creations. This adaptable approach fosters a dynamic creative environment that has benefited graduates for more than twenty years. Our alumni become innovative problem-solvers who pursue careers across multiple industries, including: Concept Designers for major companies, Industrial Furniture Designers, Custom Furniture Artisans, Film Special Effects and Production Designers, University Educators, and Exhibition/Display Designers.

The School of Art prefers, but does not require, that Studio Art applicants have undergraduate degrees in Art. Application to our graduate programs is competitive and most applicants to the studio programs will have an undergraduate degree in Art, many with a BFA in their chosen media.
