They also select from specialized courses covering topics like gender and language, psycholinguistics, meaning studies, English language evolution, and more.
A linguistics degree opens doors to diverse career paths. Alumni have pursued opportunities in fields ranging from professional translation and overseas English instruction to technology roles at companies like Google.
CSULB's Linguistics Department focuses on investigating various elements of spoken and signed languages while collaborating with language communities. Embracing language as a cultural, social, and cognitive construct, we guide students in exploring both universal and distinctive linguistic features across different languages and communication forms. Our approach involves studying language structure and usage, instructional methods, learning processes, and contextual language applications.
