French is spoken by over 300 million people across 55 countries on five continents. As a key language of diplomacy, global affairs, and development, it serves as either a working or official language for major organizations like the UN, EU, NATO, UNESCO, and the International Red Cross. CSU LB's French program provides diverse degree pathways, from a Certificate in French Language Proficiency to a Minor, BA, and MA in French and Francophone Studies. The BA program includes an interdisciplinary track for students seeking to expand their academic and professional horizons while pursuing a dual major. Those with basic French coursework can access various study abroad opportunities, supported by substantial scholarships. The RGRLL Department additionally provides a Single Subject Credential in French. These academic options can be pursued individually or combined progressively throughout a student's journey at CSULB.
