The Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction equips experienced educators to take on leadership roles in curriculum development and teaching methodologies across various specializations, including elementary education, social justice for diverse learners, early childhood education, and math/science instruction. Candidates can opt for a general curriculum track or select a focused concentration. The Elementary Curriculum and Instruction specialization empowers teachers to: enhance their professional expertise, stay current with educational research, and assume leadership positions in both public and private school settings (preschool through 8th grade). The program offers multiple study pathways, including: 1) The Social Justice Education Emphasis, which prepares educators to work effectively in culturally diverse environments by examining schooling through a social justice lens and developing strategies to promote equity across various dimensions of diversity; 2) The Early Childhood Education Emphasis, addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in preschool through primary grades; and 3) The Math and Science Education Emphasis, responding to national priorities for improved STEM education by deepening teachers' content knowledge and preparing them for leadership roles in these critical subject areas.
