CSUF's Jazz Studies Program equips students with the skills needed for professional performance and composition/arranging careers in Southern California and beyond. The Bachelor of Music degree specializing in Jazz and Commercial Studies readies students for this dynamic industry. Performance groups feature the Fullerton Jazz Orchestra, Fullerton Big Band & Latin Ensemble, Jazz Small Groups (combos), and the Jazz Singers. Through these ensembles, students gain the experience necessary to excel in regional jazz and commercial music scenes. The Master of Music program provides two focus areas: theory/composition and performance. This graduate degree aims to develop musicians who: possess expert understanding of music history, literature, and theory; demonstrate advanced, reflective musical practice through performance/improvisation, composition, and analysis at a near-professional level; enter their field with exceptional knowledge and abilities; communicate effectively through research and presentations; exhibit leadership in academic and performance collaborations; pursue innovative artistic expression; and incorporate global perspectives and contemporary trends into their performance, composition, teaching, and career growth.
