The School of Nursing provides a Master of Science in Nursing program designed to equip nurses for advanced practice as family nurse practitioners in primary care. This program ensures graduates develop expertise in physical diagnosis, psychological evaluation, and managing health needs within complex patient and community systems. The curriculum also establishes a strong base for pursuing doctoral studies in nursing.
The program structure aligns with the core competencies outlined by the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Master's Essentials, focusing on:
Incorporating research from nursing, biopsychosocial sciences, genetics, public health, quality improvement, and organizational studies to enhance nursing practice in various environments (Essential I)
Developing leadership abilities that promote ethical decision-making, productive collaborations, and systemic thinking (Essential II)
Understanding quality assessment methods, measurement tools, performance indicators, and professional standards (Essential III)
Implementing research findings to improve clinical outcomes (Essential IV)

Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an NLN/CCNE accredited program
Registered nurse license in California
Cumulative GPA of 3.0
