The communication major equips students with versatile skills in verbal and written expression, critical evaluation of human interaction, and research techniques from both social science and humanities perspectives. This program highlights practical applications of theoretical concepts across various settings, from intimate interactions to corporate leadership and civic engagement.
Our curriculum fosters a thorough grasp of communication studies' scope, including its principal theories and investigative approaches. Both the major and minor programs demonstrate how these academic foundations translate into real-world situations spanning private connections, workplace environments, and community initiatives. Learners examine communication challenges across different cultural backgrounds, benefiting from the San Joaquin Valley's rich ethnic diversity as an exceptional learning environment.
The Professional Communication Skills Certificate program acknowledges growth in key areas like public speaking, analytical thinking, leadership development, and interpersonal dynamics.
Our department provides numerous engaging opportunities to enhance student learning. These include the active Communication Club, a competitive debate squad that attends collegiate tournaments and organizes campus discussions, plus our yearly Peach Blossom Festival welcoming thousands of young students to perform literary works.
Students receive individualized guidance from our undergraduate advisor. The major begins with fundamental coursework and allows customization through electives aligned with personal goals. Our flexible requirements complement various minor programs seamlessly.
The communication curriculum blends artistic and scientific approaches, teaching essential competencies for careers in education, commerce, legal fields, media, government, and administration. Participants can investigate the complete spectrum of human interaction processes.
