The interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts in Film and Media Studies offers students a humanities-focused exploration of audiovisual media, encompassing critical analysis, theoretical frameworks, and historical perspectives on film and video, supplemented with foundational production training. This flexible program accommodates diverse media applications, ranging from experimental and documentary approaches to scientific media studies and mainstream cultural analysis.
The Film and Media Studies B.A. provides a comprehensive liberal arts education in audiovisual media. The curriculum spans professional and applied disciplines (such as Anthropology, Architecture, Education, and Theatre) alongside historical and avant-garde studies (including Art, English, German and Slavic, and Romance Languages). This interdisciplinary major fosters integration of theoretical knowledge with practical skills. For their culminating project, students may select from various formats: a scholarly paper, screenplay, short film/video production, or work in a related medium.

The degree requires completion of at least 27 credit hours - 20 from core courses and 7 from senior independent research (IDS 4906). Students are advised to take ENG 3115 (Introduction to Film: Criticism and Theory) as it prepares them for ENG 4136 (Film and Video Production). CLAS elective requirements should be fulfilled through coursework tailored to each student's focus area, developed in consultation with faculty advisors to support individual academic and creative goals.
