The Department of Social Work provides graduate education culminating in a Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) degree. This curriculum prepares social work professionals for both leadership roles and hands-on practice, with accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education. Emphasizing multicultural competencies, the program equips graduates to serve in diverse urban settings across nonprofit and public sector organizations.

California State University, East Bay's M.S.W. program aims to develop culturally aware urban social workers specializing in Children, Youth, and Families as well as Community Mental Health. Graduates gain skills to tackle challenges faced by individuals, families, groups, and communities affected by socioeconomic disparities and identity-based discrimination - including factors like race, gender, age, ability, sexual orientation, immigration status, religion, and caste. The program's foundation lies in advocacy and systemic change to combat these inequities. We envision cultivating diverse leaders who will drive social transformation and dismantle oppressive structures through collaborative community partnerships.
