The Art History and Visual Studies concentration equips students with analytical and historical skills to examine art and visual media. This program teaches students to contextualize artworks and imagery within their social, political, and cultural frameworks, cultivating an appreciation for diverse perspectives and critical engagement with visual ethics and aesthetics. The curriculum includes comparative cultural studies, critical media analysis, and exploration of global visual culture's influence. Students may also enhance their learning by selecting related courses on visual studies from other departments. Graduates are well-prepared for arts-related careers or advanced studies in art history, media studies, law, or education.
The Art Department provides two Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) tracks. The Art History and Visual Studies track hones research, visual interpretation, and critical thinking skills for careers in the arts or postgraduate studies. Meanwhile, the Art & Design track offers foundational training in artistic and design practices for professional growth or creative careers.
