The Dance Studies program at HSU fosters students' artistic growth, creative expression, and technical skills while equipping them for professional careers or postgraduate education. As part of the Theatre, Film, and Dance Department, the program embraces cross-disciplinary approaches and facilitates numerous artistic partnerships. It also includes specialized pathways for those interested in cultivating teaching abilities.
Performance and choreography options feature an annual Spring Dance Concert highlighting student and faculty works, biannual Evening of Dance showcases, periodic Interdisciplinary Concerts, and various community engagements throughout the academic year.
The curriculum offers diverse courses that blend technical training with artistic and intellectual growth. Foundational instruction covers Modern, Ballet, and Jazz techniques, while creative development flourishes in Choreography classes. The Dance Production course delivers hands-on experience in performance creation. Dance Science and Bodyworks courses examine human movement through scientific, somatic, and practical lenses, enhancing bodily awareness and wellness connections. The program culminates with an Interdisciplinary Seminar where students complete collaborative creative or research projects.
