The philosophy program offers students a comprehensive philosophical education that enhances Caltech's science-focused curriculum. Those selecting this path will explore key philosophers and historical movements while engaging with modern philosophical discussions. This option also encourages students to view their scientific coursework through different lenses and apply their technical expertise to classic philosophical questions.
Through philosophical studies, students will master fundamental analytical skills: interpreting philosophical works, evaluating argument strengths and weaknesses, constructing logical defenses of positions, and anticipating counterarguments. The program further develops students' abilities to communicate effectively in written and spoken form. A Philosophy minor is also available for interested students.
