Exceptional undergraduate Engineering students may pursue a combined program culminating in a Master of Science degree one academic year after earning their Bachelor of Science. Typically, these students enroll in graduate-level courses listed in the Brown University Bulletin during their senior year. The integrated program's fifth year enables students to complete a rigorous Master of Science curriculum. This pathway also streamlines doctoral studies for qualified and interested candidates. Participants may choose between thesis and non-thesis options for the Master of Science degree. The program generally requires students to complete two additional courses beyond their Sc.B. concentration requirements during senior year. These two courses count toward the eight-course Sc.M. requirement, reducing fifth-year tuition to three-quarters of the standard rate. Engineering 2010 and 2020 are the suggested supplementary undergraduate courses. Participants must meet all standard requirements for both degrees. Undergraduate 100-level courses may apply toward the Sc.M. degree only if they weren't used to fulfill Sc.B. requirements.
