The Middle East Studies (MES) concentration aims to cultivate a robust, interdisciplinary grasp of both historical and modern matters across the broadly defined Middle East. The program's flexible requirements are designed to support students' specialized interests in exploring the region's varied dynamics, histories, and cultures. Through diverse courses from multiple University departments—covering topics from ancient times to the present—students engage with different disciplinary approaches and materials, constructing a framework for comprehending the Middle East in both past and present contexts. The concentration's foundation rests on four key pillars: language proficiency, core knowledge and methodologies, multidisciplinary regional studies, and research.
