The Archaeology and the Ancient World undergraduate program offers students a chance to delve into the diverse field of archaeology while promoting interdisciplinary exploration of antiquity. While centered on the archaeology and art of the ancient Mediterranean, Egypt, and Near East at Brown University, this concentration actively encourages students to broaden their horizons by connecting with other disciplines like history, epigraphy, art, ethics, engineering, religious studies, and sciences. Featuring three interconnected yet distinct tracks, the program provides flexibility for students to chart their own academic journey. All tracks share a common foundation before allowing students to specialize in areas such as cultural heritage, archaeological theory, materials analysis, or specific regions and eras. The curriculum is structured to facilitate progressive learning, from introductory classes to advanced seminars. Students are expected to include courses that examine social inequality, exclusion, and diversity, both through Diverse Perspectives in Liberal Learning (DPLL) designated classes and other courses addressing similar themes. The program strongly supports research opportunities including fieldwork, internships, museum work, and independent studies.
