Established in 1988 by the J. Reuben Clark Law School, the Master of Law (LLM) program was designed to enable internationally-trained lawyers to gain expertise in the U.S. legal framework. This intensive program facilitates comprehensive immersion in American law while fostering collaboration between LLM candidates and JD students. Participants build a strong grounding in fundamental U.S. legal concepts while maintaining the freedom to explore specialized academic areas. To maintain exceptional educational standards, the program typically accepts only six to eight students annually.
The LLM degree is awarded after completing at least 24 credit hours over a minimum of two semesters, following the attainment of a JD or equivalent international law qualification.
