This program focuses on applying the scientific method to cultivate critical thinking and analytical abilities for addressing conservation and management challenges in wildlife ecology, wildlands, restoration science, and/or rangeland ecology. Depending on the specialization, advanced coursework may cover statistical analysis, geographic information systems (GIS), soil science, modeling, systematics, or advanced ecological studies. Each concentration mandates original research culminating in a dissertation, with work meeting professional journal standards to enable swift publication. Students are also urged to present their findings at academic conferences.
