The MFHD PhD program delivers comprehensive training in family studies and human development, allowing students to specialize in various areas of the discipline. Doctoral studies primarily aim to develop skilled educators and researchers. Graduates often secure academic roles in family studies or human development departments, while others pursue careers in community organizations, research institutions, media outlets, or corporate environments.

The program admits approximately six to ten students annually, with the ratio of MS to PhD candidates fluctuating each admission cycle.

Qualification Requirements

A master's degree in MFHD or a related field is required to apply to the PhD program. Students with a bachelor's degree should first apply to the Master's program. Upon completion of their Master's degree they may apply to the PhD program. Admittance to the Master's program does not ensure admission to the PhD program.
Provide evidence of at least the equivalent of a 4 year U.S. bachelor's as indicated by an unofficial transcript or academic record for each institution attended.
Self report your final degree GPA as indicated on your transcript or academic record. International applicants must convert their raw GPA to a 4.0 scale.
IELTS - Overall minimum band score of 7.0 (consisting of minimum band scores of 6.0 in each module)
TOEFL (paper based test) - 580
TOEFL iBT (internet based test) - Minimum subscores of 22 (Speaking) and 21 (Listening, Reading, & Writing respectively) comprising an overall score at least 85.
