This program equips students for top-tier professional leadership roles, with most graduates pursuing careers as university or college faculty. The curriculum provides comprehensive training in exercise science fundamentals, deep familiarity with scientific literature, college-level teaching skills, and independent research capabilities.
Degree Requirements
Completion of 60 post-baccalaureate credits, including at least 36 credit hours of residency beyond the master's degree. (Note: Candidates without a completed master's thesis must produce a publishable, first-author research paper)
Both a Comprehensive Exam and Dissertation are mandatory.
A minimum of 60 post-baccalaureate hours is required, excluding all undergraduate prerequisites and 100-400 level courses. Doctoral candidates must maintain active research involvement throughout their studies - either original or collaborative work - and present at regional, national, or international conferences or submit to peer-reviewed journals. These requirements are in addition to the thesis (or equivalent first-author publication) and dissertation.
