The Biological Science Education program equips future educators to teach life sciences at the middle and high school levels. This comprehensive major offers extensive training in biological sciences, covering subjects like plant and animal classification, anatomy, molecular biology, genetics, ecological systems, and evolutionary theory. The curriculum also includes fundamental physical science courses in physics, chemistry, and earth science.
In addition to scientific training, the BSE degree incorporates studies in adolescent psychology, inclusive education strategies, instructional technology, and science pedagogy. Students gain hands-on experience through classroom observations and teaching practicums. Graduates qualify for a Utah Secondary Teaching License, which includes certification to teach Biology courses (grades 6-12) and general science (grades 6-8). This teaching credential maintains strong reciprocity with other states' certification systems.
