The percussion performance program equips students for careers in professional performance or advanced studies, along with studio instruction opportunities. Aspiring percussionists enhance their skills through private lessons, master classes, and participation in acclaimed chamber groups, symphonic ensembles (including bands and orchestras), and jazz performance groups.

BYU's percussion curriculum covers diverse musical genres while offering top-tier practice spaces and learning materials. The undergraduate program focuses on fundamental techniques across snare drum (both classical and rudimental styles), timpani, drum set, and mallet percussion. Students perform in conventional band and orchestra settings as well as jazz ensembles, percussion groups, steel drum bands, and gamelan orchestras. The department frequently hosts visiting artists, and numerous students gain international performance experience through touring ensembles.
