The Department of Political Science seeks to offer comprehensive education that enhances students' ability to examine political events, government systems, and their broader global and personal implications.
We employ diverse teaching approaches - from statistical analysis of data to historical comparisons of institutions and critical study of foundational texts - to cultivate these analytical skills. Our goal is to inspire students to actively participate in shaping their communities, religious institutions, and global affairs.
Though not exclusively a liberal arts program, pre-professional track, or citizenship degree, we transform politically engaged liberal arts students into knowledgeable graduates. They become equipped to participate in societal matters, pursue political science graduate studies, or enter other professional fields.
This degree program mandates at least 27 credit hours of political science coursework completed on BYU's campus (excluding Independent Study courses). These credits may also fulfill BYU's 30-hour graduation residency requirement.
