The Department of Political Science seeks to deliver comprehensive education that enhances students' ability to examine political events, government operations, and their broader global and personal implications.
We employ diverse teaching approaches - from statistical analysis of measurable data to historical comparisons of systems - to cultivate critical thinking skills. Our goal is to inspire students to actively participate in shaping their communities, religious institutions, and global affairs.
Though not exclusively a liberal arts program, pre-professional track, or citizenship degree, we transform politically engaged liberal arts students into knowledgeable graduates. These individuals become equipped to participate in societal matters, pursue advanced political science studies, or enter other professional fields.
This degree mandates completion of at least 27 credit hours in political science courses through BYU's residential program (excluding BYU Independent Study courses).
