Gaining profound insight into the varied cultures, historical narratives, and geopolitical dynamics of the Americas, the Caribbean, and U.S. Latino populations is perhaps more crucial now than ever before.
Established over fifty years ago, our program takes an interdisciplinary approach to exploring Latin America and Latino culture, with specialized focus areas in history, political science, literary studies, and anthropology. You'll have the opportunity to identify and explore a specific area of personal interest. We support research endeavors ranging from local projects in Boston to international studies in Belize or Brazil, and will help pair you with suitable faculty mentors.
The Latin American and Latino Studies (LALS) Program buzzes with continuous activity, offering a packed schedule of guest speaker events, film showings, theatrical performances, educational excursions, and presentations by visiting creatives and authors. A highlight is our annual Graffiti Week, showcasing live demonstrations by acclaimed Brazilian street artists.
Alumni pursue diverse professional paths in fields including higher education, legal practice, nonprofit work, healthcare, cinema production, and global diplomacy, frequently maintaining ties to Latino communities.
