The American Studies program at OSU-Cascades aims to equip students with skills to inspire innovation across diverse fields such as business, education, creative arts, arts management, legal professions, healthcare, government work, and advanced humanities or social science studies. Our approach focuses on developing students' abilities to analyze texts carefully, express ideas clearly, and thoughtfully examine matters of fairness, sustainability, and multicultural perspectives. We guide students to approach problems with analytical rigor, global awareness, and democratic principles while mastering research techniques and adapting to our rapidly changing digital world. Our focus on analytical reading, effective writing, thoughtful reflection, rigorous analysis, thorough investigation, and information competency supports the broader objectives of the School of Writing, Literature, and Film. Through American studies, we foster intellectual curiosity, pursue original insights, and bridge historical understanding with contemporary challenges to better envision what lies ahead.
