Students considering this option should meet with a Creative Writing Co-Director during the initial weeks of the preceding semester to review application procedures and identify a project advisor, typically a senior faculty member familiar with the student's work.
Typically, all four workshop prerequisites must be fulfilled before commencing the project.
The final project will consist of a high-quality creative work with a more focused scope than a full-length thesis, such as a 25-page poetry collection or 50-page fiction manuscript.
The Creative Writing faculty will recommend departmental honors to the English department based on the student's outstanding academic performance in the major and the quality of their honors project.
Brandeis has a rich tradition in creative writing: offered as coursework since 1951 and established as an independent major in 2003.
