The Department of Creative Writing provides both undergraduate and graduate degree options. These programs focus on developing skills in creative nonfiction, fiction, literary translation, playwriting, and poetry through intensive study and practice. Each program blends rigorous workshop participation with specialized creative process courses and complementary English Department requirements. Foundational literature courses ensure students engage with classic literary works while developing their craft. Under the guidance of published faculty members, students hone their skills through hands-on practice, technical studies, and thorough critique sessions of both student and professional writing. Creative Output: Participants will create polished, submission-ready written pieces. Career development for literary fields: Covers essential competencies in publishing, writing instruction, editing, book production, and arts administration.

You are considered a freshman applicant if you will have a high school diploma or GED and have not enrolled at any college or university beyond the summer immediately following your high school graduation.
