Boston University School of Music offers an on-campus Master of Music (MM) in Music Education program grounded in applying theory to practice. Our approach emphasizes that meaningful professional experiences help students implement, strengthen, and evaluate their academic learning, while coursework should directly address real-world music education challenges.
BU provides two on-campus MM in Music Education options for qualified graduates: the Professional Track and Initial Licensure programs. The Professional Track serves educators who already hold PreK-12 music teaching certification or don't require licensure, typically applicants with existing Bachelor's Degrees in Music Education. Many enrollees are currently working as music educators in schools, community organizations, or nonprofit institutions.
