This program is ideal for certified art teachers seeking graduate-level coursework, museum education careers, or Texas K-12 art certification. The degree enhances understanding of art education theory, practice, and research while allowing specialization in museum or classroom settings. Courses combine analytical rigor, creative investigation, transformative art production, and inclusive methodologies for equitable futures. Students can pursue advanced professional development or additional certifications across three flexible tracks, with thesis/project alternatives to practicum requirements. The 36-credit curriculum leads to an M.A. in Art Education.
The museum education concentration introduces graduate students to teaching historical and contemporary art within museum contexts, emphasizing research-driven practices. Applicants to Option 2 (Art Museum Education) must also apply for the Graduate Academic Certificate in Art Museum Education. This track culminates in museum internships, with optional thesis/project work available as final coursework.
