Students cannot apply solely for a master's degree at first.
Those accepted into the PhD program can choose to earn a master's degree while pursuing their doctorate, provided they meet all necessary criteria.
Program Learning Objectives
Exhibit advanced understanding of astronomy and physics, covering essential areas such as: core physics and astrophysics principles, gravity, electromagnetic theory, quantum mechanics relevant to astronomy, and the dynamics of cosmic and space plasmas.
Display proficiency in observational methods for investigating astronomical and space-related phenomena.
Conduct supervised research within the field.
Effectively communicate research findings to faculty committees and scientific peers.
The Graduate School of Arts & Sciences Bulletin specifies the MA in Astronomy requirements, which consist of:
Completion of 32 graduate-level credits (with a minimum of five 4-credit courses at the 700-level)
