The Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development provides a Graduate Certificate program designed for post-baccalaureate candidates seeking Initial Licensure to teach Chemistry for grades 8 through 12. Successful participants will acquire foundational knowledge and teaching competencies required for entry-level Chemistry instruction at the secondary level. Key program objectives include:
Mastering specialized teaching methodologies to qualify for initial chemistry licensure at the designated grade levels.
Creating impactful curriculum through development of research-backed lesson plans that accommodate diverse learners, incorporating differentiated instruction and universal design principles.
Employing various evidence-based instructional techniques that foster scientific inquiry and cultivate critical thinking skills in science education.
Implementing all three dimensions of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in both theory and classroom practice, enabling students to (1) grasp scientific concepts, (2) develop science learner identities, and (3) value scientific processes and interdisciplinary connections.
