The Department of Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences provides a PhD program designed to cultivate future research leaders and academics in speech, language, and hearing sciences. The PhD program mandates at least 48 graduate-level credit hours beyond a master's or AuD degree, including dissertation research. With advisor approval, up to 12 undergraduate-level credit hours may be counted toward this requirement. Core coursework may incorporate SH 906 as a supervised teaching experience, with alternative teaching arrangements available. Post-baccalaureate students pursuing speech-language pathology clinical certification may opt for the combined MS-SLP/PhD track. Alternatively, those entering without a master's degree can complete an additional 32 credits (equivalent to one extra year) through the MS-SLHS/PhD pathway.
