Students in UConn's Doctorate of Audiology (Au.D.) program acquire expertise to become hearing and balance specialists across diverse healthcare environments, assisting patients from childhood through adulthood along with their families. Through coursework and hands-on clinical training, our students cultivate an understanding of contemporary practices, emerging research directions, and evidence-based treatment approaches. They collaborate with dedicated faculty who foster an inclusive, nurturing educational atmosphere. Audiology offers a fulfilling career path, with audiologists specializing in hearing assessment, hearing aid provision, and rehabilitation services for those with hearing challenges.
Administered by the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (SLHS), UConn's Au.D. program ranks among New England's premier offerings.
This four-year graduate curriculum combines three years of academic study and clinical training with a final year of intensive residency.
The program delivers comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services to diverse patient groups, maintains advanced research infrastructure, and functions as a statewide and national reference center for audiology professionals.
SLHS faculty members possess robust expertise in both clinical practice and translational research.
Our scholars partner with interdisciplinary teams across UConn—including psychological sciences, neuroscience, UConn Health's otolaryngology department, and the Brain Imaging Research Center (BIRC)—to expand students' clinical and investigative opportunities.
Graduates leave fully prepared to satisfy all standards established by the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD). The curriculum also fulfills all academic and clinical prerequisites for ASHA's Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) and Connecticut's audiology licensure requirements.
