The Elementary Education program equips future educators to teach students in grades 1 through 6. At Boston University, Elementary Education majors undergo an extensive curriculum that blends arts and sciences with specialized pedagogical training. This includes studies in humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and sciences alongside core education courses. Practical teaching experiences in local schools are woven throughout the program.
All BU undergraduates, including first-year and transfer students, complete the BU Hub general education requirements. These interdisciplinary competencies are fulfilled through major coursework, electives, and cocurricular activities. Elementary Education majors typically meet Hub requirements in Diversity, Civic Engagement, Global Citizenship, Communication, and key Intellectual Toolkit components through their Wheelock College coursework. Students should consider Hub requirements when choosing Arts & Sciences classes, with remaining competencies completed through electives or cocurricular options.
