The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting program emphasizes painting as a core medium of visual and creative communication. Studio work forms the heart of the curriculum, with students investigating diverse painting approaches during their initial years. From foundational studies onward, learners examine how vision, intuition, and observation interact with creative processes. Advanced coursework fosters critical discussions and high standards in studio work to cultivate emerging artistic perspectives.
The seven-semester painting course sequence prepares students for professional engagement in the arts. Foundational studies blend observational studio practice with creative projects, helping students master techniques, forms, concepts, and thematic exploration. Subsequent years feature Painting II and III, Junior/Senior Studios, technical courses, and seminar classes. Upper-level students receive private studios, engaging in one-on-one faculty consultations and peer critiques to develop substantial, unified portfolios and distinct artistic identities. The program concludes with a thesis exhibition and accompanying written work.
