Boston College's M.A. in Philosophy enables students to expand their understanding of philosophical history while exploring varied subjects like Aristotelian naturalism, Medieval language theories, Kant's concepts of space and time, race theories, and current discussions bridging science, ethics, law, and religion.
Most participants join with plans to apply for Ph.D. programs during their second year. Each student works with an advisor and benefits from application support through a writing seminar, plus faculty panel reviews of their portfolio. The program features a dedicated coordinator who arranges specialized sessions and workshops exclusively for M.A. candidates.
Students can pursue the M.A. either full-time (typically two years) or part-time (with a maximum duration of five years).
Students must have a bachelor's degree and undergraduate course work in calculus, physics, biochemistry, biology and chemistry, including organic chemistry. Applicants whose native language is not English must achieve a TOEFL score of 600 or better (paper-based test), or 250 or better in (computer-based test).
