The initiative launched when a small group of forward-thinking individuals sought to harness Boston College's exceptional resources and the dynamic psychology community in Boston to develop Counseling Psychologists capable of promoting social justice through clinical practice, research, education, leadership, and community engagement. Their vision became reality.
We strive to foster exceptional expertise in our students, enabling them to pursue innovative research, hone clinical skills grounded in diverse theoretical approaches, and engage in social justice advocacy through their academic, clinical, and community work. Our goal is to prepare future counseling psychologists who will drive significant progress in the field, transcending conventional academic and clinical limitations.
Students must have completed master's degree in counseling or a related field; however, this is not required for admission into our program. Students with bachelor's degrees may apply directly to the program. We should note that current needs in the doctoral program tend to favor students with a MA degree. However, applicants to the doctoral program who the faculty believe may be better served by the Master's program will have their application considered for admission into the Master's program at the time of review.
