According to the World Economic Forum, empathy and teamwork stand out as essential competencies for international management professionals. These same skills prove equally vital for individuals pursuing careers in creative fields and design-driven sectors. Both capabilities depend heavily on cultivating social capital. Participants in this program cultivate lasting, meaningful connections - the foundation of social capital - with global peers by enhancing their intercultural understanding, interpersonal influence, and diplomatic skills. The curriculum specifically fosters social capital through experiential learning, collaborative initiatives, and challenging real-world tasks. This specialization is jointly administered with the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. https://herbergerinstitute.asu.edu

Traditional arts and design education often leaves graduates lacking in business acumen, a gap this program effectively addresses. Data from the National Strategic National Arts Alumni Project, surveying more than 100,000 arts graduates, reveals that while 77% of architecture alumni and 75% of fine arts alumni consider entrepreneurial skills important, merely 24% and 21% respectively acquired these crucial competencies during their undergraduate studies.

The MGM program's creative industries and design thinking specialization equips students with interdisciplinary expertise to address current demands in the rapidly growing global creative sector. By developing entrepreneurial capabilities, students learn to merge cultural industry knowledge with design thinking approaches, enhancing both management proficiency and the ability to implement innovative visions within the interconnected world of arts and design. The curriculum incorporates design-thinking principles while strengthening competencies in professional communication, public speaking, opportunity identification, systems analysis, creative problem-solving, cultural leadership, creative industry dynamics, product distribution strategies, innovation processes, and managing change in creative enterprises.
