The PhD program in exercise and nutritional sciences combines multiple disciplines to educate future scholars and leaders in tackling health challenges, while responding to society's growing need for well-designed physical activity and nutrition initiatives. This unique curriculum prepares researchers to perform transformative, cross-disciplinary studies that bridge exercise science and nutrition through a problem-focused methodology.
From their first day until graduation, doctoral candidates partner closely with assigned faculty mentors, concentrating their investigations on one specialized track: metabolism and physiology, behavioral and community health sciences, or biomechanics and motor control. Together with faculty, students pursue practical research aimed at decreasing the health, societal, and financial burdens of poor lifestyle choices. The program immerses students in continuous research activities including practicums, translational research groups, academic seminars, and dissertation projects.
Following completion of a master's degree, full-time students typically finish the program in four years, though part-time enrollment options are also available.
