The Doctoral Program in the Division of Nutritional Sciences provides rigorous interdisciplinary education designed to launch careers in nutrition-focused academic, corporate, and public sector roles. Students engage in cutting-edge research across diverse laboratories led by distinguished faculty, exploring topics from molecular nutrition to metabolic systems, disease mechanisms, and behavioral nutrition. A key research concentration examines nutrition's role in chronic conditions, particularly obesity and related illnesses like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Additional research specialties encompass nutritional biochemistry, geriatric nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, livestock nutrition, and food technology. Doctoral candidates must complete coursework, original dissertation research, residency obligations, and a successful thesis defense as specified in the program guidelines. This typically four-to-five-year program offers two admission pathways: direct entry or through the Integrated Biological Sciences track.
