The environmental engineering BSE program trains students to become future engineers capable of addressing intricate environmental issues and creating systems for human, urban, and global applications.

Environmental engineers engage in various areas and tasks, such as: monitoring air quality and developing air pollution control methods, studying the movement and transformation of pollutants, implementing sustainable design practices, designing and managing water and wastewater treatment facilities, creating systems for hazardous waste containment, developing solid waste management solutions, restoring contaminated soil, sediment, and water, and focusing on water quality, conservation, and reuse.

Acknowledging the cross-disciplinary nature of environmental engineering problems, the curriculum includes classes from the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering. Environmental engineering courses are based on solid backgrounds in chemistry, microbiology, geology, physics, and mathematics. The coursework addresses core engineering principles used in environmental processes and design, along with hands-on learning opportunities, such as a mandatory internship or research project and a culminating design course.
