Students enrolled in an M.S. Biology program have the option to select a concentration, which represents a focused set of interconnected Biology and related courses. This elective specialization doesn't require extra credits, as the courses can be completed within the standard 33-36 credit degree requirements. Students may select only one concentration.
For every concentration, candidates must adhere to the standard M.S. Biology requirements (see links for thesis and non-thesis track details), while fulfilling the concentration's minimum credit requirements through designated courses or course groups. Extra courses from these groups beyond the requirement still contribute to the degree. Be aware that typically, only four 500-level courses can apply toward the degree without special permission. Additionally, with committee approval, students may include up to 12 credits from graduate programs in other departments.
