The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Graduate Program offers both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, equipping students for scientific careers through advanced study in biochemistry and molecular biology while fostering analytical thinking and innovation. The curriculum provides a thorough exploration of the discipline, allowing students to customize their coursework based on academic interests and research specialization.
Students can choose from a wide array of research opportunities, spanning molecular biology, physical biochemistry, molecular endocrinology, plant biochemistry and molecular biology, cellular signaling, and biomedical studies. These programs thoroughly prepare graduates for academic research and teaching roles, as well as biochemical research careers in private, government, or industrial settings, covering both fundamental and applied science.
The program's faculty includes biochemistry and molecular biology experts from the Department of Biochemistry, along with researchers from seven additional departments: Entomology, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular, Cell, and Systems Biology, Microbiology & Plant Pathology, Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology, Chemistry, Botany and Plant Sciences, and the Bourns School of Engineering. Our program creates an ideal setting for graduate education in biochemistry and molecular biology, merging the resources and research diversity of a major university with the close mentorship and interdisciplinary collaboration typically seen in smaller institutions.
