Our PhD program offers you the chance to undertake a significant independent research endeavor, resulting in an innovative contribution to your selected field of study.
You can explore diverse research areas. Current doctoral candidates are investigating varied subjects including cardiovascular disease mechanisms at the molecular level, physicians' ethical considerations in medical practice, and the impact of dietary factors on cranial morphology.
During your research journey, you'll receive guidance from a distinguished expert in your field, complemented by support from a dedicated Thesis Advisory Panel. Students supervised through the Centre for Anatomical and Human Sciences enroll in the Human Sciences PhD program, while research conducted in our other centers typically leads to a Medical Sciences PhD.
The PhD is available in both full-time and part-time formats. If you can dedicate fewer than approximately 35 weekly hours to your research, the part-time option may be suitable, requiring a minimum commitment of 17.5 hours per week.
You'll register at the university where your primary supervisor is based, while enjoying access to resources and support at both our partner institutions - Hull and York. All degrees are jointly conferred by the University of Hull and University of York.
Most completed research theses are accessible through the HYDRA digital repository.
Full-time PhD programs typically span three years, though some externally funded positions extend to four years.
