As a Cultural Studies MA candidate, you'll investigate a dynamic array of topics that expand upon your current cultural understanding, personal experiences, and background. These subjects cover a wide spectrum, from eco-conscious traditions to African diaspora identity movements, and from artificial intelligence's societal impact to geopolitical influence campaigns. Our program challenges conventional knowledge structures as we examine cultural locations, objects, belief systems, customs, and their symbolic expressions. Additionally, you'll have opportunities for practical engagement with preserving, digitally transcribing, and annotating historical cultural materials like periodicals.
You'll conduct focused research on developing cultural phenomena, including style trends, culinary arts, musical expressions, and technological possibilities, studying how beliefs form and cultural objects transform under societal influences. Particular emphasis is placed on depictions of authority and dissent, along with crisis cultures encompassing environmental, philosophical, economic, and governmental challenges. The program fosters the cultivation of specialized research competencies within Cultural Studies' cross-disciplinary framework, culminating in an original thesis project. This final research project enables you to focus on a self-selected topic while receiving personalized mentorship from faculty specialists to create a substantial cultural analysis.
