The Westminster School of Arts houses the Centre for Research and Education in Art and Media (CREAM), recognized as one of the UK's most accomplished and top-ranked arts research centers. During the 2014 Research Exercise Framework, CREAM received the highest evaluation among institutions for diverse art and design research, with 45% of its work classified as world-class and 63% considered globally influential in its impact.

CREAM's research spans multiple fields including ceramics, visual arts, photography, cinema, experimental media, music, and fashion. With 30 researchers and more than 50 doctoral candidates, CREAM stands as London's premier research hub for visual/media arts, design, and music, ranking among the UK's top six centers. Nearly 50% of CREAM's PhD students pursue practice-led degrees.

Doctoral researchers at CREAM become part of a vibrant academic community, engaging in seminars, guest lectures, innovative conferences, and collaborative symposia with partner institutions. CREAM has played a pivotal role in shaping discussions around practice-led research in audiovisual media and was a co-founder of the AHRC-supported AVPhD initiative.
