The Master of Architecture (MArch) (RIBA pt II) is a prestigious, time-honored program accredited by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and recognized by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), exempting graduates from the second phase of professional training. This program prioritizes creative design excellence while cultivating a thoughtful, analytical perspective on architectural study and practice.Students benefit from a wide range of perspectives and methodologies, whether engaging in design projects or scholarly research. Design components challenge participants with complex programs (spanning social, technical, professional, or urban dimensions) requiring disciplined self-evaluation. Academic work centers on an in-depth thesis exploring architectural concepts within historical or theoretical frameworks. The curriculum pursues three key aims: enhancing design skills through experimental projects; situating work within wider cultural discussions while considering practical limitations; and developing clear communication about design quality and significance.Career Paths:Most MArch (RIBA Part II) graduates secure positions in architecture firms before pursuing Part III certification for professional registration. Others continue to advanced degrees, entering academia or research. The program also equips students for diverse opportunities across design fields and creative sectors.
A minimum of an upper second class honours degree (2:1) or a lower second class honours degree (2:2) in architecture, or similar subject area, which will normally be validated by the RIBA for Part 1/prescribed by the ARB for Part 1. Applicants will usually have one year's (post-degree) professional experience. Applicants with a lower second class honours degree (2:2) will require significant experience. At interview, applicants should present their academic portfolio together with examples of work undertaken during professional training, and any relevant contextual material..
